Casa Soldati Piazza Navona, Rome

Reasons to Love

Casa Soldati

  • Designer fixtures and features throughout the property
  • A curation of original artwork from the owner’s collection
  • A tranquil terrace, facing into a private courtyard

From every angle, there’s something remarkable to admire in Casa Soldati. Its refined use of bold colours and textures, designer fixtures (just look at the Gessi bathroom sink) and a sensitive restoration of its original 17th-century features all combine to create an example of what modern Rome can and should be.

The lounge and kitchen space feels like the set of a couture fashion shoot. It was a bold move to use hexagonal floors tiles, which expand the space, tie the touch points together, and cleverly complement the vaulted brick ceiling. Combined with the Saarinen table and reeded Mutina fireplace, you’re immersed in a retro-future dream that’s fun for aperitivo with friends.

There are more dramatic contrasts in the bathroom: Majolica cobalt tiles, laid out in a wave-like curve, form the visual grammar of a high-end spa; the crittal-style shower, meanwhile, adds a masculine touch to balance the space. The peach-resin floors (Pantone’s colour of the year for 2024) are a one-of-a-kind and accent the property’s original ironwork beams.

The bedroom completes the offering with its harmony of oak parquet flooring and regal Cole & Son wallpaper. Notice the dramatic headboard, which doubles as a room divider, hiding a walk-in wardrobe behind. Oh, and don’t forget the tranquil terrace: morning espressos with your loved one have never looked so good.

The 16th-century Altemps Palace next door is where to find the very best of the Museo Nazionale Romano’s collection of classical sculpture. The 5th-century Trono Ludovisi (Throne of Venus, in marble) is breathtaking.
